The general trend is that you pay more money, but get tickets in the better sections of the venue. You are typically not allowed to pick exactly where your seats will be nor will you necessarily know before you purchase them. So there is some level of unsettledness, but typically most of the locations are good. In addition to tickets, depending on the city, other perks could include:

The Police will play Giants Stadium on Sunday August 5. Tickets will go on sale to the general public Monday morning at 9 a.m. It has been announced that there will be no Backstage Access free presale for this concert. That means that unless a new free presale is announced, the only way to access these tickets will be through the Best Buy presale, fan club presale, fan club bundle presale or public sale. A lot of Hot Cubs Tickets for Friday

With the off-season the Cubs have had, this season has the makings to be one of their hottest in recent history. But singings of Soriano and Floyd and resignings of Ramirez, Wood and Prior are not the only reason why this could be a hot year for Cubs tickets - the schedule will also play a role.

Ticket Horde considers four factors important when looking during the preseason at how hot baseball tickets will be: they are opponents, day of week, time of year and events (Opening Day, number being retired, etc.). If a series has two of these elements, it's a pretty good sign that demand will be high. In general the more elements the better.

When you look at the Cubs schedule for the 2007 season, a lot of games have at least two of the elements that will likely push demand above face value.

Let's take a look at how the weekend series and a couple of other hot games will shake out for the Cubs this year:

Opening Day 4/9 vs. Houston Astros - This will obviously be hot.

4/13-15 vs. Cincinnati Reds - Though you will get some traffic because it is opening weekend, the weather and a relatively low demand opponent means prices will likely be around face value.

4/20-22 vs. St. Louis Cardinals - Yes, it's still cold, but the Cards are a great opponent for the Cubs and there will be a good bunch of fans driving up from St. Louis to exercise bragging rights in this first rivalry series of the year.

5/4-6 vs. Washington Nationals - This is a throwaway series. Yes, Soriano used to play for the Nats, but no one cares.

5/18-20 vs. Chicago White Sox - Two teams worth of fans will be fighting over these tickets and the weather might even start warming up a bit by mid May. Obviously, this is the hottest series of the year at Wrigley.

6/1-3 vs. Atlanta Braves and 6/15-17 vs. San Diego Padres - we will lump these together because they have something in common: they are both low-demand opponents. But they have something else in common too: They are all weekend day games in a warm month. These will be good buys at the end of the day tomorrow.

6/29-7/1 vs. Milwaukee Brewers. Same as the Braves and Padres series with a bonus: Brewers fans will drive demand up a little bit and you are more likely to get warm weather...you also have the possibility of some July 4th out of town traffic.

7/13-15 vs. Houston Astros and 7/20-22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks - The Astros used to be a good draw at Wrigley, but they don't figure to be much of a contender this year. That's why we would only go after these at the end of the day for the warm weather weekend game angle and also why they are in the same category as the D-backs.

8/3-8/5 vs. New York Mets: Right when the weather is starting to decide if it wants to change or not, the Mets make their only visit to the Friendly Confines. That puts it a bit above other games against non-direct rivals, but again, this is an end-of-the-day buy.

8/17-8/19 vs. St. Louis Cardinals - We'd take these before the Mets series as things will just start heating up in what could be a brutally competitive NL Central this year.

8/31-9/2 vs. Houston Astros - Cold weather, rough opponent and preceeds the Dodgers only visit to Chicago. Only a neck-and-neck pennant race would make these really hot and we don't know for sure whether there will be one at this point.

9/21-23 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates - If you are a speculator, this could be a big buy-and-hold series. They are the Cubs last games at home and if there is anything on the line, such as a chance to clinch, fans will come out strong.

Other possible candidates:

July 16-19 vs. San Francisco Giants - Barry Bonds only visit is in July. It will be great weather, which could be a good plan B if you buy hoping to get tickets to the HR record breaking game.

On the interleague front, the Cubs will host the Seattle Mariners in June. Yes, it is good weather, but don't kid yourself. No one cares.

Hot Seat Packages for The Police will go on sale Tuesday for the first time. Fans willing to pay a premium price will have the opportunity to purchase premium tickets for the Fenway Park or Madison Square Garden shows tomorrow. This Hot Seat Package sale was incorrectly listed as going on sale Monday 9/18, but they will actually go on sale starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday through Ticketmaster.

The Police Best Buy Presales - Ok, to disappoint everyone right off the bat (don't shoot the messenger - we'd give everyone access if we could), if you are not already a RewardZone member at Best Buy (you would know if you were and would probably carry a Reward Zone card in your wallet) it's too late for you to access this presale. The presale is only available to people who were members before February 1, 2007. It is likely that the passwords will be unique, so that means there is no way around this requirement. You can try the password REWARD or REWARDZONE on Tuesday as they have been passwords for Best Buy presales for other artists in the past. But Ticket Horde has been doing this for a while, and this has every indication that they have changed their system and are now using unique passwords.

The Police Fan Club Presales - Good news - Bad news: First the good: Anyone can access this presale. Now the bad: It's going to cost you $100. If you join the fan club for $100, you will get access to tickets. The good news is that even if you join now, you can still get access. Go nuts!

The Police Fan Club Bundle Presales - Apparently, The Police and Ticketmaster have come up with yet another way to ensure more money coming in. They no longer allow you to look at tickets before you buy them when doing a joint ticket and fan club membership purchase on the first fan club presale day. They are trying to get people to join blindly first. We still think there will be plenty of tickets for anyone who joins today, but there is not guarantee. Boo on The Police and Ticketmaster for doing this...you're already getting an extra $100 for nothing.


The Police Free Presales - These are the good passwords - well sort of. The passwords are free but the ticket selection won't be as good and there is no guarantee there will be a free presale in every city. If it makes you feel any better, our professional opinion is that there probably will be a free presale password for almost every city, so if you just want the cheapest tickets possible and want to avoid paying the $100, you are probably safe waiting for the chance at a free presale. Honda Civic Tour 2007 with Fall Out Boy

The Honda Civic Tour will be headlined by Fall Out Boy in 2007. Tickets will go on sale presale for the first time Tuesday. This is a Target presale, so to get a unique presale code, you have to go to Target, buy the CD and get the code from inside. Each code is only valid for four tickets, so if you share it, you might not be able to get tickets.

The presale starts tomorrow, but that is also the first day you can buy the album. That means you have to rush out, then rush back to a computer to get the best seats possible. Kind of a hassle, but what are you going to do?!

There will also be a FREE Honda Civic Tour presale on February 14. If you prefer to not buy the album and wait for the free presale, you will save yourself a few bucks, but you probably won't get as good of seats.

Mets Opening Day and Subway Series Ticket Registration

The New York Mets have announced that tickets for Opening Day against the Phillies and the three Subway Series games against the Yankees will be available through random lottery only. They also say this will be the ONLY way to purchase tickets through them on an individual game basis.

Ask Ticket Horde: LA Galaxy Tickets

We recently got an inquiry about our thoughts on the L.A. Galaxy and what demand for their tickets would be like. Specifically, we were asked whether seats in Section 135 Row B would be a good investment at $3000 each for season tickets. We have to say, unequivocally, NO!

But not just because it is soccer. Here are some thoughts on the Galaxy.

You all probably know by now that David Beckham has agreed to join the weak MLS team from Los Angeles, the Galaxy. You can Google the news story to find out how much he is being paid (MLS is picking up part of the bill for his salary.), but it is a lot. More than any other athlete you know. The point is, MLS has put all of their eggs in one basket. If Soccer is ever going to become a top tier spectator sport in the U.S., that fact will be clear at some point in the next 5 years.

Back to Galaxy tickets. It may take a while to catch on, but when you put a star like Beckham in Los Angeles and he comes in saying he is the ambassador of the game and that he views his role as not only being a player, but also a spokesperson, you know word will travel fast.

At this point, that has not happened, which means two things: 1. there are still some great seats available on a season ticket basis and 2. purchasing them for investment purposes still holds some risk. Anyone who got in on the Bengals, Colts or Seahawks 3-4 years ago or the Saints this year will recognize the opportunity here. Anyone who stuck around for a second year of the Nationals or got suckered in on the Jacksonville Jaguars will recognize the danger.

Either way, to get back to the original question. NO! Do not buy the $3,000 Section 135 seats. We don't say that because the Galaxy are a bad investment. We say it because you can get Section 134 Row H for less than a third of that cost. Same with the high rows in Section 135. If there's one thing that gets under Ticket Horde's skin, it's when people try to invest $1,000s without considering all options.

Galaxy season tickets are on sale right here on Ticketmaster, so you can see inventory. You might even get better seats if you call them. But by all means, don't pay three times as much as you should.

We will officially call this one a close watch. We will upgrade it to "buy" if we see some of the season tickets for this season start to disappear. If you are going to get in, you want to get in early, but at least make sure there is some evidence that demand will take off THIS season and not NEXT season.
