Start liquidating inventory! MLB teams have begun to send out playoff invoices, which are undoubtedly being met with shock due to the large price increases.
To give you a couple of examples, the Mets were kind enough to list all of their prices by section and we've listed them below. The first number is the price per ticket for the Divisonal Series, the second is the NLCS and the third is the World Series.
Home Plate Gold: $275, 325, 400
Home Plate Silver: $225, 275, 350
All other Club: $135, 190, 300
Inner Baseline, Field and Loge Box; Middle Field Box; Outer Baseline Box: $100, 150, 250
All other Box seats: $70, 110, 200
Loge Reserved: $55, 90, 170
All other Reserved: $45, 75, 150
A couple of shocking items we notice (take a look at the Shea Stadium seating chart while you compare prices.) :
Tickets for Upper Reserve 49 or 50 cost the same as Mezzanine 17, for example.
You can get into Loge Box 16 for the same price as the last Upper Box seats by UR 49 or 50.
The cheapest ticket for a potential World Series game at Shea Stadium is $150.
Quite a hike indeed.
We do not have the entire price breakdown from the Yankees, but one reader e-mailed and said their post season invoice was exactly 50% more than it was last year for the same seats!
We all know that prices are set after a negotiation between the teams and MLB, with MLB having final say on the high end of ticket prices. But this jump seems way out of synch with a typical increase. We'd love to hear what other teams are charging as your invoices start rolling in.
